July 7, 2011
The GeoBase SPOT 4 and SPOT 5 orthoimagery dataset is now complete. This imagery covers all Canadian territory south of 81° N, representing more than 95% of Canada's total land mass.
Collection of the SPOT images began in 2005 and finished in 2011. Close to 5500 orthorectified images, as well as corresponding raw imagery are now available. Each orthoimage depicts an area of approximately 3600 km2, or 60 km by 60 km of the earth's surface. The orthoimages are composed of: a 10 metre resolution panchromatic band, three 20 metre resolution multispectral bands, and one 20 metre resolution short-wave infrared band.
The 2005 - 2011 SPOT 4 and 5 orthoimagery project was completed through funding contributions by GeoConnections, eight provinces, all the territories and seven federal government departments.
