The update of Prince Edward Island National Road Network now includes address ranges
June 8, 2010
On behalf of the Canadian Council on Geomatics (CCOG), Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is pleased to announce the release of a new edition of the Prince Edward Island portion of National Road Network (NRN) that now includes address ranges in addition to street names and place names.
This update was produced by the Prince Edward Island Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (PEI DOT & IS) through the Engineering Services Section and carried out in the framework of a maintenance agreement between NRCan, Statistics Canada (STC) and PEI DOT & IS with funding support from GeoConnections.
The Prince Edward Island Engineering Services Section is to be congratulated for their continuing efforts in maintaining the NRN dataset in an accurate and current condition.
This annual update was a significant one as the PEINRN is now fully compliant with edition 2.0 of the National Road Network. Beyond the general annual revisions and updates, the addressing component was also completed in this release. To determine block face addressing on rural roads, an automated process was developed where by the ends of each road segment were located on a linear route system capable of measuring distances. These calculated distances were then interpolated into the potential or theoretical address range for each segment. The process to determine address ranging was different for city, town and village street segments. The address ranges for these were entered manually from actual civic address point locations.
Data Change Management (DCM) files between 2009-05 and 2010-06 releases are also provided for this dataset.
