Nova Scotia NRN dataset update

July 16, 2009

On behalf of the Canadian Council of Geomatics (CCOG), Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is pleased to announce the release of the third submission of the Nova Scotia National Road Network (NRN) dataset produced in accordance with NRN standards edition 2.0 by Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations (SNSMR) through the Nova Scotia Geomatics Centre (NSGC) and carried out in the framework of a maintenance agreement between NRCan, Statistics Canada and SNSMR with funding support from GeoConnections.

This GeoBase NRN 2.0 dataset was produced in collaboration with SNSMR and its provincial partners:

  • Emergency Measures Organization
  • Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (TIR)
  • 55 Municipal Units
  • First Nations

Nova Scotia continues to work with its 55 Municipal partners, TIR and NRCan to deliver the Nova Scotia component of the National Road Network (NRN). It is to be noted that this data is not to be used for Emergency response applications. Any agency requiring data for such use is to contact the NSGC directly.

NRCan is proud to be associated with SNSMR through the NSGC and their efforts in maintaining the GeoBase NRN. NSGC is to be congratulated for their efforts and success in working within a community of stakeholders that are actively participating in the maintenance of their provincial road network and producing an NRN dataset in compliance with the National Standards.

Data Change Management (DCM) files between 2009-07 and previous 2008-06 releases are also provided for this dataset. Due to clean up and addition of civic addressing information, including a significant change of geometry in Halifax Regional Municipality, this dataset includes:

  • 13,191 road segments geometrically modified or added;
  • 12,071 road segments retired;
  • 1,319 road segments attributively modified;
  • 84,339 road segments confirmed;
  • 357 Km of new road construction;
  • 6,634 Km of road segments geometrically modified.
