Newfoundland and Labrador road network update

March 22, 2006

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Department of Environment and Conservation - Surveys and Mapping Division, is pleased to announce the release of the second update of the National Road Network ( NRN ) for the province. While our first release in July/2005 was a partial update, this release is the first province wide update.

This new NRN GeoBase data set in Newfoundland and Labrador includes approximately 370 kilometers of new roads and extensive updates to attributes. It was produced in consultation and collaboration with our municipal governments, unincorporated communities and local service districts. Change detections were identified in 61 communities where new geometry and attributes were collected.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank those at NRCan for their help and cooperation, and we fully endorse the collaborative approach of updating GeoBase "closest to source".

Data Change Management (DCM) files between 2005-07 and 2006-03 releases are also provided for this dataset.

All supporting documentation for NRN Data Change Management can be found within the following NRN GeoBase documents:

  • National Vector Data Identification Rules [pdf 61 KB]
  • National Vector Data Change Management [pdf 106 KB]

NOTE: It is important to mention that the Data Change Management files are being distributed on the basis of a Beta test. By this time next year NRCan and its partners will have performed a review and measure the volume of downloads and compiled GeoBase User comments in an attempt to re-evaluate the pertinence of producing and providing Data Change Management files for all GeoBase NRN datasets.
