Alberta road network update
March 22, 2006
On behalf of the Canadian Council on Geomatics (CCOG), Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is pleased to announce the release of the first update of the Alberta portion of National Road Network (NRN).
This new GeoBase NRN dataset was produced in collaboration with NRCan and Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation (AIT). AIT and NRCan have merged their respective dataset to create a common single line network for the province. AIT managed the contract for this activity. A private firm performed this work.
NRCan and AIT have signed a three-year maintenance agreement for the Alberta portion of the NRN. This first update contains attributive information reviews relating to Road classification and Route Number based on information available at AIT. More extensive updates for this dataset are scheduled for the coming year.
Data Change Management (DCM) files between 2005-04 and 2006-03 releases are also provided for this dataset.
All supporting documentation for NRN Data Change Management can be found within the following NRN GeoBase documents:
- National Vector Data Identification Rules [pdf 61 KB]
- National Vector Data Change Management [pdf 106 KB]
NOTE: It is important to mention that the Data Change Management files are being distributed on the basis of a Beta test. By this time next year NRCan and its partners will have performed a review and measure the volume of downloads and compiled GeoBase User comments in an attempt to re-evaluate the pertinence of producing and providing Data Change Management files for all GeoBase NRN datasets.
